![]() ![]() What stories would we listen to? I'm guessing they wouldn't be about the boring person who went to work and then came home. Suppose for a moment that fiction was not a part of human culture, and that all stories were true. You've claimed that in real life, x or y would happen, rather than what happened in the movie. However, in your complaints about it, you've gone and committed another fallacy that tends to bug me. I'm fine with you hating it, as long as it's not for the reasons I specifically gave. Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200.īut hey, It's A WONDERFUL life everybody! ![]() George would end up dead at the bottom of the river leaving broke and disgraced orphans/widow behind in a foreclosed home (everybody knows life insurance doesn't pay on suicides!). The bank would be shut down and foreclose on the homes of the low-income mortgage holders (Potter would away and keep his own finances intact) and Harry the brother would take the fall for bank fraud and be serving time (but probably wouldn't have even made it that far after being shot down and killed in the war). If the movie were based in reality the ending would be entirely different and entirely less cheerful, unless you are the sort who enjoys capitalizing on others' misery because Potter would win out. The world that IAWL takes place in does not, nor has it ever existed. ![]() And my life experiences teach me that it is actually inaccurate anyway. Seems like a bunch of sentimental Hollywood bullshit to me. ![]() The point is you can be happy no matter what you're doing as long as you have friends and loved ones around you. Oh wait, I guess that is the same as (a). Mainly (a) it is corny as all hell, and (b) everything works out all nice and everyone is special, and everyone succeeds and gets to be happy, and the bad guy loses, and we can all hold hands and sing together, and blah blah blah. I hate it for all kinds of different reasons. (i'll take your hat, your hair looks swell)ĮDIT It actually makes me feel a bit warm and fuzzy inside that there's a revolt against my dark outlook on this song.
